Der schwedische Mittelfeldspieler Jimmy Durmaz sieht sich immer wieder heftigen rassistischen Beschimpfungen ausgesetzt. Nach dem Spiel gegen Deutschland ist ihm der Kragen geplatzt und er hat sich gemeinsam mit seinem Team mit einer kleinen Rede an die Medien gewandt:
I am a football player at the highest level. Being criticized is something we live with. It’s part of our job and we have to deal with that every day of the week. But being called ‚blattejävel‘, ’suicide bomber, recieving threats toward my family, my children – and recieving threats on my life – is completely unacceptable. I am Swedish, and it is with pride I wear our shirt and our flag. At the same time I want to thank all the good and wonderful people out there who spread joy. It warms all of our hearts. We stand united, we are Sweden and boys: „Fuck racism!“.
